Welcome, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ to Teachers Talking for Term 3.

During Term 2, we focussed on the theme “Where Heaven meets Earth”. Many of you will have stories to share about how your infinitely wise and good Heavenly Father is sustaining both yo

u and your school community through these strange and challenging days. You and your colleagues have embodied the kindness and compassion of Jesus as you struggled to help your students learn differently and engender hope into their lives.

We are now faced with the news of unrest stirring globally and we grieve at the painful and heartbreaking headlines over recent days. In the midst of stories of injustice and violence, we cry out like the prophets of old “Where are you in the midst of this, O Lord?”

How do we unfold God’s redemptive story to our students in the current culture? St Augustine pictured our world like a tale of two cities – The City of God and the City of Man[1]. These two cities have two different kings and two different ways of life, one centres on the love of self while the other makes the ultimate priority the love of God – for the way we and our students see the world shapes how we live in the world.

Our challenge as teachers is to unfold truth and knowledge and cultivate the practices and habits that will form our students into citizens of the City of God while being deeply influenced by the spirit of the age, the City of Man.

Term 3 Teachers Talking will explore the theme A Tale of Two Cities as we lead and shepherd our students to know the Word of Life who gives light in the darkness of our culture that is losing its moorings and sense of direction.

For followers of Christ, breaking with idols and living the way of truth is ultimately a test of love.

May our prayer for ourselves as teachers and our students be:

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints.” (Ephesians 1:17-19)

Grace and Peace,
