Believing that God keeps His promises and is faithful is the foundation of Hope.

So, what is the nature of the God who promises?

The whole Bible is testimony to the faithfulness of God. Everywhere we see the strength and determination of a sovereign, righteous and holy Triune God.

This is not some erratic or indulgent God who overlooks sin and depravity. Rather, our God deals with unrighteousness and offers mercy.

Sociologists identify shame, guilt, and fear as major determinants in many cultures. Sure, one or more may be more prevalent in some cultures more than others, but all of humanity experiences all three.

All three responses arise from the deep rebellion within us: the rejection of God and His Fatherhood. The only remedy is redemption in Christ – the merciful initiative of the Triune God. This is the nature of God towards His people.

In Ephesians Chapter One and Two, Paul tells us that the Triune God took the initiative to redeem us in Christ, to make us alive – as a consequence of His great love and mercy.

Every member of the Trinity was involved in this gracious redemption. We were blessed and chosen by God the Father, our redemption was enabled by the blood of Christ, and this was sealed and guaranteed by the Holy Spirit.

This is the nature of the God in whom we believe. He names sin, points to its fatal outcome, provides the atoning sacrifice Himself and by His mercy and grace removes our guilt, shame, and fear.

We are freed to live a life of meaning, purpose, and willing obedience. This is the Good News that we believe which brings true hope.
